Amur Leopard
The Amur leopard is one of the rarest and most endangered big cats in the world, native to the temperate forests of the Russian Far East and northeastern China. Recognized for its thick, pale-golden coat adorned with large black rosettes, the Amur leopard is uniquely adapted to harsh, snowy climates. Its long legs and dense fur help it navigate and survive the cold, rugged terrain.
As a solitary predator, the Amur leopard preys on deer, hares, and smaller mammals. It is known for its incredible agility, capable of leaping over 10 feet horizontally and climbing trees to scout for prey or escape danger.
Unfortunately, habitat loss, poaching, and a very limited population (fewer than 120 individuals in the wild) make this species critically endangered. Conservation initiatives, such as the establishment of the Land of the Leopard National Park in Russia, are vital to preserving this majestic feline’s future.
