Caucasian Agama
The Caucasian agama is a fascinating reptile native to the rocky forests and semi-arid regions of the Caucasus Mountains. These lizards are known for their striking appearance, with males displaying vivid colors during mating season, ranging from bright blue to green.
Caucasian agamas are diurnal, basking in the sun on rocks during the day and retreating to crevices at night for safety. Their diet consists mainly of insects, but they occasionally consume small fruits and seeds. Agamas are also excellent climbers, using their sharp claws to navigate rocky terrains.
While not currently endangered, their habitats are increasingly threatened by human activities such as agriculture and urbanization. Preserving the unique ecosystems of the Caucasus is essential for ensuring the survival of this vibrant species.
